How We Review Gear
How the reviews and buying guides on this site are researched, sourced and kept current.
Research-based, not hands-on
The reviews and buying guides are written from manufacturer product pages, spec sheets and manuals, plus the published sources each page lists. They are not based on in-water testing, and no page claims it is. Fit, comfort and durability depend on your face, body and diving, so the guides explain how to check those yourself instead of promising them.
No payment for positive placement
We do not accept sponsored placements, paid reviews, or free gear in exchange for coverage. If a manufacturer sends something for review, that is disclosed. Our recommendations are not for sale.
Affiliate links follow editorial decisions
Product selection happens first. Affiliate links are added after. Every Amazon link on the site carries the same tag (deepdiving01-20) and is a search for the product name, so you see current listings and prices from all sellers rather than one chosen listing.
Specs verified against manufacturer data
Weight, volume, materials, modes and prices come from the manufacturer's own product page, spec sheet or manual, and each review lists those sources. When a manufacturer publishes no figure, such as a mask's internal volume or a US list price, the page says so instead of estimating. In October 2026 every review and buying guide was rechecked against manufacturer data, and reviews of products that could not be found from their makers were removed.
Safety caveats on relevant content
Depth, breath-hold training, and technique guides include safety context. We do not downplay risk to keep content approachable. Safe freediving and honest information are the same goal.
Buying guides updated when gear changes
Product lines change, models get discontinued, and prices shift. Discontinued products are labelled as discontinued, and each page shows the date it was last updated.
